NEWS! --- (October 9, 2008) Cfengine Updated Cfengine, version 2.2.8, has been added. GNU cfengine is a suite of programs for setting up and maintaining BSD and System-V-like operating system optionally attached to a TCP/IP network.

NEWS! --- (October 8, 2008) Freetds Added Freetds, version 0.82, packages added. FreeTDS is a set of libraries that allows your programs to natively talk to Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase database.

NEWS! --- (October 7, 2008) Tnef Updated Tnef, version 1.4.5, has been added. Tnef provides a way to unpack Microsoft MS-TNEF MIME attachments. (Solaris 2.6-10)

NEWS! --- (October 3, 2008) Subversion Updated Subversion is an alternative to the CVS version control system. It has been updated to version 1.5.2. This is built with apache 2.2.9 in mind.

SWIG is a software development tool that connects programs written in C and C++ with a variety of high-level programming languages. NEWS! --- (October 1, 2008) OpenSSL Updated The OpenSSL packages, version 0.9.8i, have been added. OpenSSL is an open source toolkit implementing the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL v2/v3) and Transport Layer Security (TLS v1) protocols as well as a full-strength general purpose cryptography library.

SOME OF THIS WEEK'S USER COMMENTS --- (August 10, 2008) Thanks, again for the efficient version of bind. We are soaking one in production with the intention of rolling the others next week.

As I had mentioned earlier, the new one is as efficient as the earlier ones you built. We attempted to build the source with gcc and the Sun compiler, but performace was about 40% less in both cases. If you don't mind sharing a "trade secret"... would you mind showing your compile and build flags? --- from a major telecom company regarding the release of bind-9.5.0-P2 last week.

The last time you did an excellent update service on demand. Thank you very much. --- from a very large aerospace company who requested a fast update of bind 9.

NEWS! --- (June 30, 2008) Fetchmail Updated Fetchmail, version 6.3.9rc2, packages have been added. Fetchmail is a remote-mail retrieval and forwarding utility intended to be used over on-demand TCP/IP links (such as SLIP or PPP connections). It supports every remote-mail protocol now in use on the Internet: POP2, POP3, RPOP, APOP, KPOP, all flavors of IMAP, and ESMTP ETRN. This is a seurity fix update.

NEWS! --- (June 17, 2008) Xdelta Added Xdelta, version 1.1.4, has been added. Xdelta is program designed to compute changes between binary files. These changes (deltas) are similar to the output of the "diff" program in that they may be used to store and transmit only the changes between files.

NEWS! --- (June 14, 2008) Net-SNMP Updated Net-SNMP, version 5.4.1.1, has been added. The NET-SNMP (formerly UCD-SNMP) package contains various tools relating to the Simple Network Management Protocol. This is a security update.

NEWS! --- (May 29, 2008) Git Added Git, version 1.5.5.3, has been added. Git is a version control system for large and small projects.

NEWS! --- (May 27, 2008) Lftp Updated Lftp, version 3.7.3, packages have been added. Lftp is command line file transfer program. It supports FTP, HTTP, FISH, SFTP and FILE (local FS) protocols. GNU Readline library is used for input. Low level stuff supported: ftp proxy, http proxy, ftp over http, opie/skey, fxp transfers, automatic retrying on non-fatal errors and timeouts, ipv6, socks, http/1.1, sftp v3-4 - installs in /usr/local.

Solaris is my favourite OS, and Sunfreeware.com is an invaluable extension of it. Actually, I always thought Sunfreeware was part of Sun before this noon.

Introduction

Welcome to the archive of pre-compiled free software for Sun Microsystems Solaris 2.5, 2.6, and 7-10 operating systems. This project is an extension of an effort that has been providing Solaris software for both SPARC and Intel architectures since 1994. It is an outgrowth of the SunSITE project.

You will see a list of the programs ported to Solaris 2.5, 2.6, 7, 8, 9, and Solaris 10 for SPARC and Intel/AMD processors in the frame to the right. Select your architecture first, then the programs available will be listed in the window at the lower right. Click on the program you want and it will appear in the center windows. These lists will be updated frequently, so check back often.

Before you use any of the programs here, PLEASE read the documents at the links to the upper left, especially the Downloading/Installation, and FAQ links. You will save yourself a lot of time and email if you know what to do with the resources here before you download anything.

I have added links File Sizes and MD5 Checksums links that contain all the file sizes in bytes and the results of running the md5 program on the files.

The FTP/Mirror Sites link, which is updated periodically, will take you to other sites that contain some or all of the information given here. Some of these sites do not update very often, so you may want to check back here periodically.

I have included a page on how the packages here were created. This Creating Packages has proven useful to a lot of other system administrators and those who want to distribute software in the pkgadd format.
